Android Auto

Brief:

Android Auto is a mobile application that runs on an Android-powered device. It features a streamlined user interface, huge buttons, and advanced voice control, all of which make it far simpler to utilise mobile apps while driving. Once you have successfully connected your phone to the head unit in your vehicle, the system will begin to reflect the apps from the device onto the display of the vehicle. It is not just compatible with touchscreens but also displays that are controlled by buttons on the head unit. As of January 2019, Android Auto is available in 36 countries, and more app availability is being added on a country-by-country basis. This app is now compatible with over 400 different car models.

Features:

  • You just need to tell it where you want to travel, and it will provide you with real-time GPS guidance as well as traffic warnings on the way there.
  • While you are driving, you have the option to configure your device to ignore any distracting messages.
  • Simply giving Google Assistant a tap will allow you to answer and make phone calls with ease.
  • Messages can be sent and received with the Google Assistant using a variety of different messaging apps, including WhatsApp, Skype, Telegram, and many others.
  • You are able to set reminders for yourself to receive updates on the news or check the score from the previous night.
  • You have the option of letting the Google Assistant check your schedule on your behalf so that you are aware of what your plans are and where you should be.
  • You will have the ability to operate your entertainment system and listen to your favourite media apps such as Music Streaming, Pandora, and Spotify.

Tips:

Downloading it via the Google Play store won’t cost you anything, but the service uses a lot of data. In order to use this app, you need a phone that runs Android version 5.0 or a later version. Check your owner’s manual or get in touch with the manufacturer of your automobile to find out whether or not the display in your vehicle is compatible. If it is turned on, make sure you use a USB cable of good quality to connect your phone to your vehicle, and after that, launch the application to get started on your daily commute.

Review:

The concept of Android Auto is really appealing to me. On the head unit of my car audio, I may use some applications that are on my phone. I am able to take and make phone calls, read and respond to text messages, and use Google Maps to find my way. These are wonderful things to have. On the other hand, up until very recently, I was able to listen to the radio in my car (which provided information on the local traffic, news, and weather) while also hearing the voice prompts from Maps over the speakers in my car. This functionality is no longer available. The only way for me to hear the prompts is through a data source that is connected via Bluetooth. This irritates me to no end.

I’ve only just started using Android Auto, but so far I’ve had a positive experience with it. The majority of the time (97 percent), it performs just as it should. There are instances when I have to disconnect and then reattach my phone to the USB cable. That doesn’t work nearly as often as it should. The Subaru radio needs to be turned off entirely or restarted the majority of the time when there are connectivity issues. In general, I believe that it is really useful because it makes texts and navigation completely seamless.
